2010 Mini Cooper S manual. Given my intent to explore some of the fun driving roads in the area, it seemed like a good choice. Hooray Turo!

was that the turbocharged cooper S or is it the supercharged cooper s?
I don’t know my mini history terribly well.
Either way, cool car!

Turbo

Oh.
I really liked the supercharged ones.

Those are the earlier ones. Don’t know the reason for the switch but my guess is fuel economy.

Where is this one located? I know I rented a mini Cooper S out in Palmdale from turo and it ate 3 qts of oil in the 1500 miles that I had it for. Fun car though, I loved how quick it was and how Miata like the steering was

I suppose your guess is right. But I doubt it increased it dramatically, it must be something more about emissions (since turbo engines are more efficient at the low RPM tests I think?) but it is also a charade because whenever the Mini hits boost the km/L s go down and grms/km of CO2 go up!

Neat, these came up a lot in my recent car shopping, even a few Clubman Ss which is what I’d want if I got s Mini. But the reliability and maintenance scares me too much. So I bought an AWD BMW instead of a FWD one.
However I would jump at the chance to drive one for a few days.

Sounds like a good time! I need to rent a sporty car from Turo, I’ve only used them for practical reasons like hauling bikes around on vacation.
![]() 01/31/2018 at 19:20 |

Yeah I like them but the maintenance means I’d never want to own one.

Another reason for the switch might be that BMW wanted to ditch Chrysler (Supercharged engine was part of a Rover-Chrysler joint venture) for PSA (who developed the Prince engine together with BMW)

Don’t forget the PCH.

Hence why I was dumb enough to buy one with a head gasket problem

Highway 1 would be a dream in the Mini. Same with Muholland
![]() 01/31/2018 at 19:35 |

Oh, might be terrible, but it sounds terriffic!
![]() 01/31/2018 at 19:43 |

PCH, Mulholland, and Angel’s Crest are all on the list.

Alas, my PCH drive, very brief, was in a rental Impala. But it was still epic.

The Jeep had a great noise from the V8, but the Kia has this ever so slight twin turbowhistle that blows my mind away every single time.

Mountune, stock with certain options in Europe.

Ahh okay different one then. Fun as hell car, make sure to take up to the Angeles Crest Highway and make a run up the Mount Wilson Access road. You will certainly find it enjoyable! Can recommend more roads too if you’d like.

I drive on the PCH every day to and from work. It’s certainly a dream! I am excited for the summer time though when I get to start doing it with daylight both ways. But I’m sure it will have more traffic with all of the sunset tourists.
